PinkRio: A Free WordPress Responsive Multi-Purpose Theme

There are many things that are part of a web designer’s life: WordPress is one of these. It’s so integrated in our scale of values, always present in everything we do, that it also nourishes itself with our emotions and feelings.

The theme we’re presenting today, besides being a technically interesting product, of which we’ll talk about later, has become a symbol of a rememberance, an emblem of a value, of a higher force, love, that belongs to us, as human beings, limited by this same nature, but extraordinarily unpredictable.

The theme has been named PinkRio in memory of Nando’s father, Rosario, that passed away in 2012 and inspired the major part of what exists in this group. So, it had to be, something really special. We believe we reached our intent.

PinkRio is a WordPress theme, clean and modern (and free), suitable for users that don’t have a large experience in programming but want to have full control over all the elements of their website/blog.

Obviously it’s responsive, and it’s particularly indicated for corporate/portfolio sites.

In all these years we’ve had the fortune to develop many successful WordPress themes and have helped thousands of people to set up these themes in the best manner according to their needs.
This allowed us to take knowledge that the administration panel probably is the most important feature of a theme, even if it’s less visible than the layout or the graphics of the pages.

Therefore, we decided to optimize and enhance it in pursuit of a greater usability by the users.

PinkRio is the proof of all this work. Its administration panel has been designed to easily manage the configuration of every single element, so customizing the theme has become a very simple operation, accessible to all, even to those who aren’t familiar with the code.

Since the logo is one of the first physical evidence of a website (and its importance is known for what you want to communicate and for the identity of the brand), its configuration represents the first step for the customization of the theme.

As you can notice from the image above, the configuration options of the first section of the panel (accessible from PinkRio Free > Theme Options) are at an advanced level. The user can control:

logo customization;tag-line;favicon;breadcrumb;layout of website (this is fantastic);responsive behavior;Following the order of the configuration of the panel, immediately after the logo we find the section dedicated to the footer.

It’s important to notice here what the user can do with the simplicity of a couple of clicks. He can choose the type of footer:

two-columned;centered;two columned big footer;centered big footer. And you can modify the typical texts of the footer just rewriting it (even in HTML) in the specific fields provided in this section for the customization of the copyright.

There had to be a section dedicated to archive, categories and search pages. Here, the panel allows you to operate according to three preferences:

show or not the title of the page (through a button like switch on/off);write the title of the page in the text field;choose whether to show the contents or an excerpt of the same.

And now this is when the real fun begins. The blog. The beating heart of every web project that points to the growth and the construction of one’s corporate identity. Obviously the panel of PinkRio considers all this, giving to the users a very flexible management of the elements.

The setting begins with a choice of opportunities. The user is asked if there are categories that must be excluded:

from the blog page;or from the list of categories that appear on the sidebar. On the screenshot you see only Uncategorized activated . Try to imagine all your topic arguments. A long list, indeed. Which of these do you prefer on the homepage or hidden in the blog page? Which must not appear on the list of the sidebar?

It seems like a minor feature. Instead it’s a very smart option that can make the difference in the management of the contents. Other options follow that get enabled/disabled simply with the switch on/off button. They are:

Show featured image, to enable or disable on the blog page an of evidence.Show featured image detail, to enable or disable the image of evidence even in the single post.Show date, to show the date in the posts.Show author, to show the author of the post.Show comments, to show the number of comments in the post.Show read more button, to show the read more button that takes the reader from the blog page to the single post.Read more text: this is a field (not a switch) in which you can write a text instead of read more (eg. continuo, more info, go etc.)Show tags, to show the tags in the post.

By default, all these options are set at on.

The management of the testimonials has become an unavoidable strategic factor for a good policy of credibility of the brand. For this reason, almost all the premium themes have implemented the function (remember that this is a free theme). But PinkRio allows you to do much more.

With two switch on/off and a pull down choice:

Show Thumbnail: you can decide to show or not a thumbnail photo of the testimonial. It’s easy like drinking a glass of water.Link to the testimonial detail page: you can decide to link or not to the site of the testimonial.Testimonial text type: to show all the feedbacks or just part of them.

Take note of the slide that indicates the number of words to show for each testimonial.

It’s all so easy, right? You can build up your WordPress site in a few minutes.

But what happens if you weren’t a novice user and want to further customize the theme we’re offering, how can you do it?

Easy! On the panel of PinkRio, in the last section, there’re custom fields where you can modify both the style and the javascript.

Moreover, there’s a Google Analytics code field where you just need to paste the code tracking of your analytics to start the tracking of Google compared to the traffic and the events of your website.

Completed the phase of the theme options, there’s still another section to explore. It’s the management of the sidebars, accessible from PinkRio Free > Sidebars.

For the pages and for the posts, the panel offers immediately two settings:

The switch button, to enable or disable a specific sidebar for all types of pages. The choice of the positioning of the sidebar (right or left) or of a layout with no sidebar.

There’s also a drop down menu to select the type of sidebar.

We didn’t forget the services. PinkRio, as we said, is a theme particularly indicated for corporate/portfolio sites. And so is for the fact that the user can easily create a specific offer page for services thanks to our custom post type created ad hoc.

Among the tools of the editor, there’s a button for shortcodes to be used on this page. Without writing a single line of code, you can setup buttons, icons or show the services in the modality you prefer. Simple and intuitive.

The menus of PinkRio are compatible with the Drag & Drop system introduced in the version 3.0 of WordPress. To create a main navigation menu all you need to do is drag the elements in the designed area.

The theme is localized in English. Using the translation file we released with the theme, you can translate it in any other language.

Along with the theme, we ‘ll release a support file that will help you throughout the entire configuration process of the theme.

For obvious reasons, we can’t offer support for every user that downloads and uses PinkRio, as it’s impossible for us to keep up with all the requests without compromising our work, considering the number of users that follow us today and the possibility that this theme may be included in the official directory of WordPress.

To report a bug you can use this post.
